Agents of Ioun
Ioun Temple Factions
Archivists: This group is centered on preserving knowledge and building libraries, schools and arcane academies. The group takes a more passive role in the spread of the faith and is more concerned with educating those who seek it out and maintaining the alliances they have with the followers of Corellon, Erathis and Pelor. They see themselves as brothers (complementary) to the followers of Corellon in regards to knowledge and the arcane. One sub-sect of the Archivists, the Constructionists, concerns themselves with building temples and libraries to the goddess in established cities rather than just having small shrines or no formal places of reverence. Another sub-sect, the Soothsayers, focuses on prophecy and foretelling the future; sometimes for monetary donations to the faith. The Soothsayers are the most mystic and eccentric of the Archivists.
Initiates: This group is centered on spreading the Faith and the quest for ancient and lost knowledge. The initiates hold that Ioun is superior to Corellon , as magic is derived from knowledge and skill. The Initiates have two sub-sects as well. The first, the Sojourners, seek to spread the Faith, gain converts and increase the power of the goddess (sometimes at the expense of the followers of the Big 3 deities). These pilgrims travel the land and rarely stay in established cities for long. The second sub-sect, the Delvers, seek out lost knowledge, arcane artifacts and ancient tomes. They seek to add to the established pool of knowledge whenever possible and feel they can make superior use of assets that may have been sacred to other beings at one time (gods and demons included).
Most Archivists view the Initiates as reckless, fanatical and, at times, dangerous. Some think the Initiates are power hungry and corrupt.
Most Initiates view the archivists as reactionary, lazy and cowardly. Initiates believe that knowledge is power and it should be applied for the glory if the goddess, not just gathered, bundled and hidden away.
